30 PLUS YEARS AND GOING STRONG.
It all began in 1977 when Bob Hurley accepted a job as a salesman for a Buick Pontiac dealership. The die was cast. Cars were in Bob's future.
Bob became the used car sales manager of that same dealership in 1982, a task that taught him the nitty gritty of the used car market- how to find and buy the best cars ; what's hot and what's not; how to negotiate the beat deal. " Being on the road on the wholesale end of the car business teaches you all about the market. There's no better way to learn the business."
And learn the business he did. In 1991, Bob Hurley opened Carver Auto Sales, starting small with only a handful of cars. Today Bob carries and inventory of over 50 cars- and counting. Bob will also locate cars and trucks for customers who do not see precisely what they want on the lot. With each potential purchase, Bob asks himself, ' Would I put my wife and children in that vehicle? ' If the answer is ' Yes,' I buy."
THE CARVER AUTO SALES PHILOSOPHY
"As far as prices go, I ask myself what any particular vehicle is worth. I don't mark up the prices so I can give huge discounts.0 If a vehicle is worth $15,000 it will be on the lot for no more than that, and in most cases below that.
Before a vehicle ever makes it to Bobs lot, However, he runs it by his mechanic who goes over it with a fine tooth comb.
Mostly, Carver Auto Sales deals with the later model used cars, ones that have one or two owners with low mileage. However its not uncommon for Bob to sell older less expensive vehicles that come in trade, but for Bob to keep them on his lot, they need to meet his stringent safety requirements. This is a very popular price range for a lot of customers looking for that second family car, or that first car for their son or daughter. " I take a good hard look at trade-ins. Maybe it has high mileage, but if its a one or two owner and its a well maintained vehicle I keep it."
" I sell cars in the $5,000 to $20,000 range or thereabouts- such as sedans, luxury cars and 4X4s, performance cars, convertibles, you name it.
" The emphasis is on the word ' quality.' And quality doesn't always mean it has to be a $15,000 to $20,000 vehicle or more. 00 I have those, but I also feel strongly about supplying the less expensive vehicles for our customers."
Bob and his wife Gail have lived in Carver since 1984. They are the parents of six boys and two girls, with three grandchildren and counting. They have both been very involved in the community. In 1989 Bob started the still very successful Pop Warner football league. He coached Little League Baseball for eight years and a traveling Babe Ruth Baseball All Star team for seven.
With that kind of involvement, its not surprising that Bob Hurley's focus is on giving his customers and the members of his community good value and good service. He goes the extra mile and gains the well- deserved trust.
